braces vs alignersFew people are born with naturally straight teeth. Often, alignment issues are corrected as a child or teen, but not everyone has the same opportunities. If you didn’t get braces during your childhood or you’ve suffered orthodontic regression, you don’t have to live with the results. You can get the straight, beautiful smile you’ve always wanted with braces in Waco. Now, you have more options than ever to correct your bite and alignment concerns. Besides traditional metal braces, you may be a candidate for Invisalign.

Traditional Metal Braces

For well over 100 years, metal braces have been the go-to orthodontic treatment. Brackets and wires are placed on your teeth to gradually pull them into position. This method is effective for correcting even the most complex bite and alignment issues. On average, you can expect to need braces for 2 to 3 years depending on the extent of your orthodontic imperfections.

Many patients prefer metal braces because they are attached to the teeth, which makes it easy to remain compliant with your treatment plan. Not to mention, they have undergone several improvements over the years to make them less noticeable. Many dental offices now offer tooth-colored brackets and wires, allowing them to blend in with your teeth.

Although they are an affordable and effective treatment, you will have dietary restrictions and your oral hygiene will take a bit longer. You’ll also need to schedule adjustment appointments every couple of weeks.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

As an alternative to traditional braces, Invisalign offers a nearly invisible solution. Clear aligners are worn over your teeth to move them into position. This provides a discreet option because you don’t need any brackets or wires. Most patients achieve the results they want in about 12 months, but the duration of your treatment varies depending on your individual needs and patient compliance.

When compared to metal braces, you won’t need to worry about any irritation to the inside of your lips or cheeks because the aligners are smooth. They are also removable, so there aren’t any dietary restrictions and your oral hygiene routine is unchanged. You’ll also spend less time in the dental office because you don’t need appointments for adjustments.

You must have a high level of self-discipline to wear the aligners the correct length of time each day when choosing Invisalign. While the aligners are effective for treating several bite and alignment needs, there are limitations, so they aren’t right for everyone.
